Earlier this week James received confirmation from the Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex that Southend and Rochford were going to gain additional officers.
As a result of the extra funding in 20/18/2019 and planned additional funding in 2019/2020, Rochford and Southend policing districts will receive 45 extra officers.
As a result of the 2018/2019 precept increase there are now an additional 8 officers in the local policing team in the Castle Point and Rochford District. In the Southend District there is now in additional 15 officers.
Southend will also receive a further 9 officers as a result of the 2019/2020 precept increase. I was also informed that the new budget increase will allow the Chief Constable to introduce town centre teams and in total the teams in the District will have 11 PCs and 2 sergeants. 2 of these will be specifically for Rochford and 6 of these will be specifically for Southend.
“I welcome the announcement of 45 extra officers assigned to local policing in Southend from the Essex Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner which is a result of the extra funding in 2018/19 and planned additional funding in 2019/20.
The combination of Community Safety officers, Southend BID’s Street Rangers and the extra Police resources has allowed for there to be more visible improvement in our high street which has helped Southend Borough Council to build on its capacity to deliver highly visible & proactive policing which is what we all want.”
