Southend will not be used as a 'guinea pig' for plans to switch off street lights, a council chief has vowed. Pictueed right, Tony Cox, the Tory councillor responsible for highways, declared the town would not be joining Essex County Council's scheme to turn off lamps in residential roads between midnight and 5am.

Bus Stop Shelter to Return

Rsidents at Nichson House and Barringtons in Southchurch Road, Southend have saved a bus stop shelter after joining with Kursaal ward councillors who with them presented a petition to the council.
