Bus Stop Shelter to Return

Local Southchurch residents were delighted when told by Cllrs Louise Burdett and Blaine Robin that the bus shelter would be rebuilt in Southchurch Road, Southend. The residents at Nicholas House and Barringtons joined with Kursaal ward councillors in presenting a petition to the council. Last month the Kursaal councillors took 30 residents to a full council meeting and presented the petition. Ms Burdett said that following discussions with Cllr Mark Flewitt responsible for transport and planning the shelter would be built in the new year. For many residents the shelter provides enough protection from the weather to make the difference as to whether they venture out or not. Cllr Burdett said, "It was an impressive campaign being able to take many residents to the council meeting to present the petition". "The bus shelter is important in ensuring people can wait for the bus in greater comfort using seats and having some protection from the elements".
